Connected device is disrupting many business, power utility being no exception. Power Utility companies are essentially faced with four challenges from growth of IoT

Machines, Controllers, HMI, SCADA systems are increasingly becoming cloud connected by the vendors who promise to offer more analytics and insight via their data for predictive and preventative maintenance. However large scale adaptation of IoT is slow due to security concerns at various levels. Securing Firmware and Gateways is far from ideal. OWASP model of 10 layers of IoT security did some impact but overall failed to get much ground due to non-adoption from major IoT platform like Azure or Google.
